Sherbanger is on the shorter side with minimal internodal space. Without intervention, this compact structure can block the lower bud sites from receiving adequate light. Once your plant reaches 4–5 nodes in vegetation, top the main stem just above the node using sterile shears. You can also gently bend light-blocking branches outward and secure them using plant ties to create a flat, open structure.

Opening up the inner canopy allows light to penetrate directly to lower sites, resulting in robust flowers with peak impact. When done correctly, these techniques result in a healthy, lush canopy and buds that truly meet their potential.

Defoliate the Lower Canopy

Microclimates are areas of trapped humidity that can form in any cannabis plant, but are most common in dense, stocky cultivars. Stagnant pockets of moisture and air can result in powdery mildew and botrytis (bud rot). However, there’s a simple way to resolve this challenge before it has the chance to do any major damage. 

Around day 21 of Sherbanger’s 60–70 day flowering cycle, selectively remove large fan leaves and small, unproductive shoots, focusing on the bottom third of your plant. This will help ensure air can cleanly move between your plants’ medium and the lower branches.

Manage humidity and temperature

Sherbanger thrives in daytime temperatures of 75–78 degrees Fahrenheit or 24–25 degrees Celsius. This strain also prefers 55–60% relative humidity during the vegetative stage. During the flowering stage, drop the relative humidity to 40–45% while lowering night temperatures to 65–68 degrees Fahrenheit or 18-20 degrees Celsius. Maintain continuous air movement using oscillating fans positioned above and below the canopy.

Reducing humidity will encourage your plants to transpire more efficiently and prevent condensation from settling deep within the flowers. This process helps encourage clean, rot-free colas while maximizing the intensity of your plants’ terpene and cannabinoid profiles.
